Hopkins Central’s Girls Upend Caldwell 4-3 in 8 Innings

Two days after picking up a one-run win over Henderson County at Lady Tiger Field, Caldwell County’s girls walked off their home field on Monday with a one-run loss.

The Lady Tigers fell to 7th District foe Hopkins County Central 4-3 in eight innings.

Caldwell (1-1 overall, 0-1 district) grabbed a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first two innings.

But Hopkins County Central (3-3, 1-0) took the lead with a three-run third.

The Lady Tigers tied things at 3-3 in the fourth inning, but that was the final scoring until the Lady Storm chased home a run in the eighth inning.

Emily Ballard was the winning pitcher for Hopkins Central. She allowed three earned runs on eight base hits. Ballard struck out six and walked one.

Meanwhile, Caldwell pitcher Jackie Farmer allowed just one earned run in eight innings in the circle. She surrendered five base hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Aly McCord scored the game-winning run for Hopkins Central. After a leadoff single in the eighth, McCord eventually came around on a sacrifice fly to right by Kylee Satterfield.

Caldwell was retired in order in the bottom of the eighth.

Maci Tyler was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a run for Caldwell. Harper Holeman, Alicia Stanley and Brylee Butts each had doubles.

McCord was 2-for-4 and scored twice for Hopkins Central.

Caldwell’s girls had won 17 straight against the Lady Storm going back to the 2016 season.

The two teams will hook up again Thursday in Mortons Gap.

Caldwell’s girls next go to Muhlenberg County on Tuesday.
