
The Todd County Central softball team saw a three-game winning run come to an end with an 8-1 loss to Bowling Green on Saturday morning, before bouncing back to top Hopkinsville 18-0 in three innings in the second half of a doubleheader.
The Lady Rebels open 13th-District play on Tuesday against visiting Russellville with a record of 4-2. The Lady Panthers have won the last 16 in the series dating back to the 2016 season.
In the opener, Todd Central took the lead in the bottom of the first on Naomi Welborn’s RBI double, but it was all Purples the rest of the way.
Bowling Green put up five runs in the second inning to chase Lady Rebel starting pitcher Naomi Gammon. Hadley Morrison smacked an RBI triple, and Emma Lindsey doubled to drive in a pair with the help of a Todd Central error.
Gathright’s double drove in a run and made it 8-1 in the top of the fifth, and Morrison retired the Lady Rebels in order in the bottom of the inning to finish off the win. Morrison allowed a single run on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts to earn her second victory of the season.
Gammon took the loss, surrendering five earned runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Jocelyn Mock pitched well in relief, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk and a pair of strikeouts over four frames.
The Lady Rebels rebounded in a big way in the afternoon matchup, putting up ten first-inning runs and following with eight in the second to cruise past Hopkinsville.
An RBI double and a run-scoring single for Mock highlighted the Lady Rebels’ first at-bat, and Welborn’s two-run homerun to left field was the big moment in the bottom of the second.
Abby Craig picked up her first win of the season in the circle, holding the Lady Tigers hitless with six strikeouts and four walks.
Averie Luckenbill drove in three runs for the Lady Rebels, Gammon, Welborn, and Isabelle Hightower each finished with two RBI, and Abby Williams had two hits.
Olivia Luttrull took the loss for the 0-6 Lady Tigers, allowing eight earned runs on a hit with six walks and a strikeout.
Hopkinsville will welcome University Heights Academy on Tuesday looking for its first district win of the season.
