You can’t fault the Lyon County Lady Lyons if they were still experiencing a bit of a high from the boys’ basketball state championship win over the weekend.

Many of the players were at Rupp Arena to watch the Lyons bring home the school’s first KHSAA team state championship, as was coach Jason Collins, who has twin sons on the team.

Playing for the first time in six days, the Lady Lyons dropped an 11-3 district contest at Trigg County on Monday.

The Lady Wildcats broke open a 3-2 game with an eight-run sixth inning and then beat the Lady Lyon bats and the rain in the seventh to pick up just their second win against Lyon County in 11 meetings.

The Lady Wildcats pieced together four singles in the inning, and Kiley Slone doubled home a pair of runs to cap the eight-spot.

Maddie Smith and Tember Oliver also had a hit and a pair of RBI. Brynlee Smock and Kady Fuller each had two hits as part of the 11-hit Lady Wildcat offense.

Oliver labored at times in the circle but powered through to get the win allowing two earned runs, and five hits while striking out six.

Four Lady Lyons singled in the game, and Brenna Breitrick doubled home Lauren Davis for Lady Lyons’ first run of the game.

Lyon County fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the district.  Lyon County will host Trigg County on April 25.

Trigg County improved to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in district play ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled game with Livingston Central.
