The Livingston Central Cardinals were apparently more than ready to get Spring Break 2024 underway. The Cardinals scored 43 runs over two games as they swept a doubleheader from the Fort Campbell Falcons Saturday afternoon in Smithland.

In the opener, the Cardinals scored in their first five at-bats on their way to a 12-7 win. Livingston Central took the lead for good in the bottom of the first, scoring 5 runs to take the early 5-0 lead. The first seven batters reached base for the Cardinals. The big blow of the inning was a three-run home run off the bat of Jackson Duncan.

The Cardinals added a run in the second to make it a 6-0 game.

Fort Campbell got the offense going in the top of the third, scoring four times to cut the lead to 6-4. Adam Harrington had an RBI single in the inning for the Falcons.

Just as it looked as if the Falcons ready to make their charge to the lead, Livingston Central got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-4. Carter Ray drove in both runs with a double.

The Falcons struck back in the top of the 4th, and again it was Adam Harrington leading the way. Harrington’s two-run single trimmed the Livingston lead back to 8-6.

But the Cardinals were not about to let this one get away. Skylar Padon drove in two runs with a two-out double in the bottom of the 4th and Livingston Central moved the lead back to 10-6.

Fort Campbell scored again in the top of the fifth thanks to a Cardinal fielding miscue but the Cardinals then closed the door on any comeback by plating two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Adam Harrington had a big game for the Falcons. He went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. John Arnold finished 2-3 with a double and a run scored.

The second game was over from the moment it started. With the Falcons’ home field being unavailable this season, Fort Campbell was the home team for the second game of the doubleheader and Livingston Central delivered the knockout blow before the Falcons could get their first turn at the plate.

Livingston Central scored double digits in each of their three at-bats on the way to the 31-1 win. The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first, 10 in the second, and added 11 more in the third.

Fort Campbell pitchers had their struggles at the plate, walking 14 batters and hitting five more. The Cardinals also had 12 hits in the three innings. Avery Zaim and Peyton Martin had three hits each to lead Livingston Central. Daniel Ramage had 5 RBIs for the Cardinals on just one hit. He was walked three times in the game.

Fort Campbell’s run came in the bottom of the third when Nathaniel Johnson scored on a fielder’s choice after reaching base on a walk.

Avery Zaim pitched a three-inning no-hitter for the Cardinals.
