Moss’ Double Gives Hopkinsville a Florida Walk Off Over Washington County

After seeing an early lead get away from them, the Hopkinsville Tigers picked up the second win of their Spring Break 2024 trip to the Sunshine State Monday afternoon. Zach Moss doubled in two runs with one out in the bottom of the 7th to allow the Tigers to walk off a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Washington County Commanders at the Fort Walton Beach Bash.

The Tigers entered the bottom of the 7th trailing Washington County 3-1. Lucas Kaetzel was hit by a pitch to open the inning. After a line out from Chase Fort, Gavin Mitchell and Layton Lindsey singled to load the bases. J.J. Thompson drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the lead to 3-2, setting the stage for Zach Moss’ game-winning hit.

Moss also got the Tigers on the board to start the day. After a lead-off double from Thompson, Moss connected on an RBI single to right field to give Hopkinsville the early 1-0 lead.

Gavin Mitchell kept the Washington County bats quiet for most of the game. The Commanders finally broke through with a run in the bottom of the 5th

Washington County got to the lead in the top of the 7th. After a Hopkinsville error, Andrew Mackin blasted a two-run shot to center off Dylan Sweeney, putting the Commanders ahead 3-1.

Zach Moss had a big game for the Tigers going 2-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. J.J. Thompson was 1-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Gavin Mitchell and Layton Lindsey also had one hit each for Hopkinsville.

Mitchell went 5 innings in the start but did not get the decision. He gave up one run on seven hits, striking out three and walking four.

Dylan Sweeney got the win in relief, going two innings, giving up two unearned runs, on one hit, striking out two, and walking one.
