Lady Wildcats Fall to Muhlenberg County for First Florida Loss

A big first inning turned out to be the key for the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs Wednesday evening as they handed the Trigg County Lady Wildcats their first loss on their Spring Break trip to the Gulf Coast. The Lady Mustangs scored four times in the bottom of the first on their way to a 5-3 win over the Lady Wildcats in the Florida Softball Beach Bash.

Trigg County scored first in the game and took the early lead. Veyda Grinols singled to lead off the game in the top of the first and then scored when Rylee Hendricks immediately followed with a double to left to give Trigg a 1-0 lead.

Muhlenberg County combined three singles, a Trigg County error, and a walk to come back in the bottom half of the inning and score four runs to take a 4-1 lead that they would not surrender for the rest of the game.

Trigg County cut into the lead in the top of the 4th. Kady Fuller led off the inning with a double. Brynlee Smock followed with a single. Courtesy runner EmmaLee Futrell then scored on a ground out to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Lady Mustangs got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Joshlynn Noe doubled and then scored on an error on the same play to push the lead back out to 5-2.

Trigg County again bit into the lead in the top of the 5th. Jayden Visingardi led off the inning with a double and then later scored on a sac fly from Rylee Hendricks making it 5-3. But that would be it.

Muhlenberg County freshman Zoey Frodge then set down the next seven batter to close out the game and the win for the Lady Mustangs.

Rylee Hendricks led the Trigg County offense going 2-2 with 2 RBIs.

Trigg County matched the Lady Mustangs in number of hits at 6, but the Lady Wildcats had two costly errors that led to game-deciding runs for Muhlenberg County.

Tember Oliver was charged with the loss in the circle for Trigg County. She went six innings, giving up 5 runs, only one of them earned, on 6 hits, striking out seven and walking two.
