Kaidence Atwell is a triple-threat athlete at Christian County High School with a ceiling that she hasn’t come close to broaching just yet.
The Lady Colonel sophomore is currently running for the CCHS track and field team, competing in the sprints and short relays.
She ran a personal best time of 28.05 seconds in the 200-meter dash at Saturday’s Coach Johnson Memorial Classic and just missed doing the same earlier this year in the 100 meters by less than a tenth of a second.
She is hoping to continue taking her times lower in an attempt to qualify for her first state track and field meet next month.
Atwell also runs important legs in a pair of relays — the 400 and 800 meters — both of which set season bests Saturday at Fort Campbell.
She credits her better times to her participation with the Lady Colonel powerlifting team over the winter for her improvement on the track. That team won a state championship.
Atwell begins her volleyball season on the volleyball court where she played in every set for the Lady Colonels last year and was second on the team with 23 blocks. With four seniors graduating from last season’s 20-12 squad, Atwell’s role will become more important in the fall.
Perhaps most impressive is how Atwell understands how each of her three sports benefits the other and makes her better. She discusses that and more in this YSE interview.
She’s one to watch out for in the coming years.
