
Caldwell County rode the pitching of Cole Slone and the hitting of Luke Parker to a 6-0 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday.
Slone allowed just two base hits in a complete-game shutout while Parker was 3-for-4 with three doubles and four runs batted in during the 7th District contest at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
Caldwell is now 16-4 overall this season and 5-0 in district play.
Only three Maroons reached base all day against Slone.
Xzavier Martin got aboard on an error to start the fourth. Evan Wilson tripled but was left stranded in the fifth. And Brantley Harris had an infield single on a disputed call at first base in the sixth.
Slone (4-1) struck out eight and walked none.
Meanwhile, Caldwell put up three-run innings in the second and sixth against Madisonville hurler Brantley Harris (4-1).
The Tigers put together four of their seven hits in the contest in the second inning. Singles by Collin Whittington, David Ginn and Carter Whittington loaded the bases with two outs. Parker then unloaded them with a double into the left-corner to put Caldwell up 3-0.
A Madisonville error in the sixth opened the door for three unearned insurance runs for the Tigers. Collin Whittington walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Carter Whittington hit a sacrifice fly to right and Parker had an RBI double to left-center to extend the margin to 6-0.
Ginn was 2-for-2 and scored twice for the Tigers.
The Maroons fell to 8-11 overall and 2-1 in the district.
Slone needed 91 pitches to turn in the shutout.
Harris allowed three earned runs for Madisonville. He struck out five and walked three.
Caldwell will host University Heights on Tuesday.
Madisonville entertains Dawson Springs on Tuesday.
