SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE – Davian Simon

Davian Simon is a thrower.

The Hopkinsville High School senior is a three-sport athlete for the Tigers in three very different arenas.

Simon likes to throw people around the football field where he had a sack and two tackles for loss on defense for the Tigers in the fall.

Over the winter, Simon was a member of Hopkinsville’s second-year bowling team and put together several strong games.

This spring, Simon has traded throwing a heavy ball underhanded to tossing a smaller ball over-handed — the shot put.

He has already logged a personal best in both the shot put (34-feet, 3-inches) and the discus throw (124-feet, 10-inches). He also threw a javelin 70 feet at last week’s Chuck Gullo relays at Marshall County. Javelin is not a sport included in KHSAA postseason competition but is offered in college.

In this YSE interview, Davian explained how each sport helps the other and what lies ahead of him after high school.
