HCA Lady Warriors Finish 4th in KCAC State Softball Tourney

The Heritage Christian Academy Lady Warriors took 4th place Saturday in the KCAC state softball tournament. HCA dropped a pair of games in the tournament in quite different fashions.

In Saturday’s semifinal game against Somerset Christian, the Lady Warriors were held to just one hit as SCS claimed a 2-0 win to advance on to the championship game.

The Lady Cougars scored a run on an RBI double in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. SCS would then add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 2-0.

Ava DeJager had the only hit for the Lady Warriors.

Kennedy Hughes pitched a solid game in the circle, giving up just two runs on five hits. She struck out three and walked only one.

In the 3rd place game, it was runs and more runs. After being shut out in the semifinals, the Lady Warriors put 13 runs on the board but ended up dropping a 15-13 decision to Cornerstone Christian.

HCA led 8-4 going into the fifth inning but then the wheels came off the wagon.

Cornerstone started the top of the fifth with six straight singles as they scored four runs to tie the game at 8-8. Cornerstone then kept the rally going in the top of the sixth, scoring six more runs to take a 14-8 lead. The first 8 batters of the inning all reached base safely.

The Lady Warriors fought back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 14-12. Kylynn Tudor had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single.

Each team added a run in the 7th as Cornerstone held on to take third place.

The two teams combined for 32 hits in the game.

Rachel Robson led HCA going 4-6 with three runs scored. Madison Warren finished 3-4 with a double and five RBIs.

Kennedy Hughes and Madison Warren were named to the All-Tournament Team.
