After rain delayed Thursday’s matchup between hosts Livingston Central and Trigg County with the Wildcats trailing 5-3 in the top of the fifth with a pair of runners in scoring position, the teams met on Lyon County’s field on Friday to finish off the 5th-District tilt.  The Wildcats had their chances to tie or take the lead in the fifth and sixth, but ultimately were undone by untimely errors in an 8-4 defeat.

The Cardinals completed a season sweep of the Wildcats to improve to 10-14, 3-4 in district play.

Carter Ray’s RBI single highlighted a three-run first inning for Livingston, and after Skylar Padon tripled to open the bottom of the second, the Cardinals added two more runs for a 5-0 lead.

Trigg answered in the third on Aidon Butts’ RBI double and a run-scoring single for Haydon Reynolds, and the Wildcats tacked on another run on a Cardinal error in the top of the fourth.

Aaden Allen’s double and a walk put runners on first and second with no outs in the Trigg half of the fifth, but rain put an end to Thursday night’s proceedings.

Daniel Ramage took the mound for the Cardinals when play resumed on Friday, holding the Wildcats to a single run on Chase Hampton’s single to maintain a one-run edge.

A pair of walks had the Wildcats threatening again in the sixth, but Ramage came through with a pair of strikeouts to keep them at bay.  Three Trigg errors put the game out of reach in the bottom of the frame, allowing the Cardinals to add three runs on only one hit.

Ray earned the win on the mound without pitching on Friday, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits with three walks and a trio of strikeouts in four innings.  Ramage worked the final three frames, giving up a single hit with four strikeouts and three walks.

Butts took the loss for Trigg, surrendering five earned runs on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Reynolds was let down by his defense in the final two innings, giving up three unearned runs on a hit with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.

The Wildcats lost their fourth in a row and seventh in eight outings to slip to 7-12, 1-5 against district competition.
