In the opener, Aces’ sophomore Barrett Evans pitched six innings of four-hit baseball as Owensboro Catholic took the 2-0 win. Evans struck out 8 and walked none during his time on the mound. Luke Quinn pitched the 7th to pick up the save for the Aces.
Hayden Hunt, Cadence Gibson, Jackson Flynn, and Josh Pace had one hit apiece for University Heights.
Bryson Turner got the start and was charged with the loss for the Blazers. He went four innings, giving up two runs on just three hits, striking out none and walking one.
The second game of the day saw the Blazers rally from a 4-1 deficit with a four-run sixth inning to take a 5-4 win over the Calloway County Lakers.
The Lakers had taken the lead early in the game with three runs in the bottom of the first. UHA pitching struggles in the inning set the stage for Calloway County with four walks and a hit batter.
Trailing 4-1 as the 6th inning got underway, the Blazers got their turn to take advantage of an opponent’s struggles on the mound. UHA was the recipient of four hit batters and a walk, setting the stage for the Blazers’ four-run rally in the inning. Josh Pace added an RBI single in the inning.
Hayden Hunt then closed the door on the Lakers over the final two innings of the game. He pitched 6 2/3 innings of the game in relief to get the win. He gave up one unearned run on seven hits, striking out ten and walking two.
Cadence Gibson ended up 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Blazers at the plate.
With the split, the Blazers now go to 19-10 for the season.
