After a nice win over Apollo Friday night, Saturday was not quite as ‘friendly’ to the Trigg County Lady Wildcats. Playing in the 2024 Owensboro Catholic Classic, the Lady Wildcats dropped a pair of tough games Saturday, falling in a tight 3-2 game to the host Lady Aces and then finishing their trip to ‘Bar-B-Q Town’ with a 9-2 loss to Central Hardin.

In the opener, the Lady Wildcats scored a run in the third, on an RBI single from Kady Fuller, and another in the fourth, on an RBI single from Livia Breckel to take a 2-0 lead over the Lady Aces.

Catholic battled back and took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 5th and then shut the Lady Wildcats down in the top of the sixth to take the time-limit win. Two Lady Wildcat errors and two doubles from the Lady Aces told the story in the inning.

Tember Oliver went 3-3 at the plate for the Lady Wildcats, who outhit Owensboro Catholic 9 to 5. Oliver also had a big effort in the circle, giving up three runs, none of which were earned, on five hits, striking out eight and walking none.

The second game Saturday saw the Lady Wildcats go toe-to-toe with the Lady Bruins until the fifth inning as Central Hardin scored the last seven runs of the game to take a 9-2 win.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Central Hardin had an RBI single and scored a run on a Trigg County error to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lady Wildcats came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game on an RBI double from Brynlee Smock and an RBI single from Kiley Slone.

The game stayed knotted up at 2-2 until the Lady Bruins came up to bat in the fifth. Another Trigg County error opened the door for Central Hardin to score three runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Lady Bruins then locked up the win with four more runs in the top of the sixth. Two of the runs scored on bases-loaded walks.

Five different players had one hit each for the Lady Wildcats, who were outhit 12 to 5. Trigg was charged with three very costly errors that allowed Central Hardin to score three unearned runs and build the late-game momentum that carried the Lady Bruins to the win.

Lily Eagleson got the start for Trigg County in the circle. She went 5 1/3 innings, giving up five runs, just two of them earned, on 10 hits, striking out none and walking one.

With the Saturday losses, Trigg County falls to 14-14 on the season.
