Lady Blazers Set New School Records at Area 1 Championship

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers produced two school records and six personal bests on the track at the Area 1 Championship on Saturday at Paducah Tilghman.

As a team, UHA finished in ninth place with 24 points.

RUNNING EVENTS

Sophomore Skyler Cantrall set a school record in the 800-meter dash, a race that featured a blistering pace. Calloway County’s Jaiden Koch – who owns the school record in the event – won in a time of 2:27.59, while Marshall County’s Jessica Reed was second at 2:29.96.

Cantrell finished in third place with a time of 2:31.47, edging the former record of 2:32.92 set by Piper Hancock at the 2019 region meet.

Piper’s sister Kendall Hancock ran a personal best time in the 400 meters in 1:03.64 to place third.

Emma Dill was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.33 seconds and was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.91 seconds.

Ajae Oatts ran a personal best time in the 100-meter dash at 13.35 seconds to place 10th.

Alyssa Grise ran a personal best in the 200-meter dash at 29.70 seconds to come in 15th place.

Aliviah Acree came in 18th place in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 29.91 seconds.

RELAYS

The 400-meter relay team of Aliviah Acree, Kate Adams, Kate Cayce, and Audrey Grise also etched their name into the UHA record book. Their circuit around the track in 54.44 seconds beat an eight-year school record by nearly four-tenths of a second.

The 1600-meter relay team of Audrey Grise, Emma Dill, Ajae Oatts, and Kate Cayce finished in fourth place in 4:35.67.

The 800-meter relay team of Audrey Grise, Emma Dill, Kendall Hancock, and Ajae Oatts came in 11th place at 1:52.14. 6th fastest

FIELD EVENTS

Ajae Oatts produced a personal best in the long jump. Her distance of 14-01.50 was good for 12th place.
