New Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks continues to make all the right moves — or at least it sure seems that way.

Recently Brooks added Ciara Gregory to his coaching staff. She had been an assistant coach at Charlotte and Sunday one of her players at Charlotte, 5-8 guard Dazia Lawrence, signed with Kentucky after she visited UK last week.

“We are excited to add Dazia to BBN,” Brooks said. “She brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program and will provide a scoring punch.”

Lawrence scored 1,170 points at Charlotte and also had 287 rebounds, 162 assists and 133 steals with most of her numbers coming during the last two seasons. She averaged 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season. Lawrence had 13 20-point games and three 30-point games.

The guard had the knack for getting to the foul line as she was 136 of 170 at the foul line, an 80 percent mark.

Lawrence was a two-time all-conference pick at Charlotte and also played for Team USA  in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in Poland.

Lawrence, a fifth-year senior, had other transfer options as North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, Marquette and others reached out to her.

Brooks now has a bevy of guards for his 2024-25 lead by Virginia Tech transfer Georgia Amoore, a returning All-American. Juniors Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler are returning off last year’s UK roster along with transfer Jordan Obi. Kentucky has also signed incoming freshmen Lexi Blue and Tanah Becker.
