Caldwell County seniors Cole Sherill and Cofy Walls made it official on Thursday, signing to wrestle at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.

The pair had committed to wrestling for the Panthers last month.

A large gathering of teammates, family, students, coaches and former coaches turned out in the Caldwell County High School library on Thursday afternoon for the signing ceremony for the two matmen.

Walls placed third at 138 pounds at the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships in February.

Meanwhile, Sherill qualified for the state tournament as well at 215 pounds, but suffered a shoulder injury in his second match in Lexington and was unable to continue.

The duo earlier helped the Tigers claim a third-place finish in the team standings in a loaded 1st Region tournament field that included defending state champion Paducah Tilghman and eventual 2024 state champ Union County.

Walls won the regional championship in his class while Sherill was a runner-up.

Sherill went 4-0 and Walls was 3-1 as Caldwell placed third in the state dual championships in Bardstown in January.

Walls was the Outstanding Wrestler of Caldwell’s own Armstrong Classic duals in December, going 5-0 in that event.

Walls and Sherill will be the first Tigers to wrestle collegiately since John Mark Hutcheson wrestled at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati from 1996-2000.

Kentucky Wesleyan started its wrestling program in the 2018-19 academic year.

Kentucky Wesleyan is an NCAA Div. II school which competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
