Going into the day Saturday, you knew it was going to be a tough way to end the regular season for the Lyon County Lady Lyons, with two stern tests against two of Western Kentucky’s traditional powerhouses. Turned out it was even tougher than that.
The Lady Lyons will now head into a huge district tournament showdown Monday night against Trigg County coming off losses to McCracken County and Owensboro Catholic at Lee S. Jones Park.
The opening game for the Lady Lyons saw two McCracken County pitchers combine to throw five innings of four-hit softball as the Lady Mustangs took the 13-0 five-inning win. Addley Leidecker went three innings and gave up four hits while Addison Dudley pitched two hitless innings for McCracken.
The Lady Mustangs scored five in the second, five in the third, and then three more runs in the top of the fifth.
Lauren Davis, Lilly Perry, Jenna Coursey, and Olivia Moore had one hit each for Lyon County. The Lady Lyons were outhit 14 to 4 in the contest.
In the second game for the Lady Lyons, Owensboro Catholic put up three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed on their way to a 10-3 win. Catholic added four more runs in the top of the third as the Lady Aces extended the lead to 7-0.
Lyon County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Destiny Cayce to make it 7-1.
The Lady Aces got that run back and one more in the top of the fifth to make it 9-1. O-Cath then added another run in the top of the sixth, pushing the lead to 10-1.
Lyon County put a couple of runs up in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-3 on a bases-loaded hit batter and a fielder’s choice.
Six different Lady Lyons had a hit in the game. Lauren Davis, Destiny Cayce, Lilly Perry, Gracen Wynn, Brenna Breitrick, and Olivia Moore had one hit each for Lyon County.
With the pair of losses, Lyon County finishes the regular season at 13-19. The Lady Lyons will face off against Trigg County Monday night at 7:00 in 5th District semifinal play at Smithland.
