
Cole Glover captured a Class 1A Region 1 title in the 3200-meter run and the University Heights Academy 4×100-meter relay team bested the field in only its second time competing in the event to help the Blazers to a 3rd-place team showing on Saturday at Murray High School.
The 4×100 relay team of Griffin McCoy, Harlow Hampton, Ryan Luckey, and Clayton Lester competed together for the first time last week but ran a school-record 43.63 on Saturday to hold off Mayfield and Fort Campbell and punch their ticket to the state meet in Lexington.
McCoy added a trio of top-three finishes, running 2nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.66 and posting a 20-01 to place 2nd in the long jump. He was also 3rd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19.
Glover turned in a time of 10:54.24 to take the 3200-meter title and ran 3rd in the 1600-meters with a 4:57.14. He was also part of the 4×400 relay team that finished 3rd with a 3:41.86, along with Hampton, Luckey, and Lester.
Luckey was also 3rd in the 400-meter dash (52.58), and Lester finished right behind him with a 52.61. Aaron Onate was 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 42-04.50, and despite pulling up injured near the finish line of the 110-meter hurdles, Logan Miller finished 5th.
Finally, the Blazers’ 4×800-meter relay team of Graham Conrad, Zach Davis, Hugh Sisk, and Jude Finch finished 4th with a time of 9:28.26.
