Carter Bounds set a school record while running to a third-place finish in the 3,200-meter run at Saturday’s Class A Region 1 Track and Field Championships at Murray High School.
Bounds’ time of 11:07.41 broke his own school mark, despite much of the race being run in a downpour.
Cole Glover of University Heights won the 3,200 in 10:54.24. Deacon Dever of Dawson Springs was runner-up at 10:56.77.
The Lyons’ 4×800-meter relay team earned a sixth-place showing with a time of 10:23.38. That squad is made up of Lucas Poague, Ethan Gossard, Luis de Alaminos-Carulla and Bounds.
That was the third-fastest time at Lyon County High School.
The 4×200-meter relay team finished seventh in 1:51.46. Members of that team are Gossard, Jordan Jackson, Boston Mullen and de Alamino-Carulla.
Gossard had the only other Top 10 showing for the Lyons with an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:23.47.
The Lyons placed 10th out of 12 schools in the team standings.
Fort Campbell won the team title, with Caldwell County second and University Heights third.
