
Caldwell County’s girls have five automatic qualifiers for state after placing third as a team in Saturday’s Class A Region 1 Track and Field Championship in Murray.
The Lady Tigers had 72.5 points, which was well ahead of Ballard Memorial (53 points), which finished fourth.
Murray took top honors with 130.5 points. Fort Campbell was second with 123.
Kyndle Mahaffey will compete at state in the 100-meter wheelchair race for the second straight year after placing first in 33.01 seconds.
Avery Wells has qualified for state in three events.
Wells was second in the 200-meter dash in 26.97 seconds. She also took second in the long jump at 16 feet, 2 inches.
In addition, Wells was a member of the 4×100-meter relay team which placed second in 51.73 seconds. Other members of the squad are Mariah Merritt, Addison Middleton-Mobley and Haley Dalton.
Benashka Thomas placed second in the shot put at 29 feet, 6.5 inches.
The top two in the regional automatically qualify for state. Caldwell is hopeful of adding some at-large qualifiers as well.
Thomas was third in the triple jump at 30 feet, 4.5 inches.
T.J. Goodwin took third in the pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches.
Two relay teams turned in third-place finishes.
The 4×200 team of Chevy McGowan, Brilee Hubbard, Haley Dalton and Wells was third in 1:51.21.
The 4×400 team of Jordan Ortt, Dalton, Merritt and Medeline Thomas was third in 4:34.47.
Dalton earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 13.22 seconds.
Emma Ward was fourth in the discus at 87 feet, 5 inches.
Ortt was fifth in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches. SHe was also fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.34 seconds.
Medeline Thomas was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.79.
Merritt was sixth in the 400 dash in 1:07.82.
Hubbard finished sixth in the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches.
Middleton-Mobley placed sixth in the long jump at 15 feet, 1 inch.
Keirli Herran was seventh in the discus at 80 feet.
Goodwin finished eighth in the triple jump at 27 feet, 6.5 inches.
McGowan was ninth in the 200 dash in 28.94 seconds.
Shylee Hinchee placed ninth in the 300 hurdles in 1:05.41.
Herran was 10th in the shot put at 23 feet, 6 inches.
Caldwell’s girls were third last year in the Class 2A Region 1 meet at Calloway County.
The Lady Tigers were also third two years ago in the 2A regional at Paducah Tilghman.
Caldwell was dropped to Class A for the first time this season.
