While she is technically a graduate now of Lyon County High School, Anna Crawford got one final chance to represent her alma mater Tuesday at the Girls’ State Tennis Tournament. The trip marked the second consecutive year Crawford had qualified for the statewide event.
Crawford began her day Tuesday taking on Zoe Karelis, of Hazard High School. This match was Crawford’s from the beginning. She rolled through the opening set 6-1. Crawford then repeated the feat in the second set, closing out the match with another 6-1 set win.
Her second match of the day found Crawford matched up against Addison Haller, of Louisville Collegiate. In this match, it was Haller who took control early and never gave it up on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 win to end Crawford’s high school playing days at Lyon County.
Haller was one of the 16 players to receive a seed for this year’s state tournament.
After being Lyon County’s first girl to reach the state tournament in eight years in 2023, she took it one step further with advancing to the second round of the tournament this year.
The girls’ matches Tuesday were played in Berea.
