Hoptown pitchers were on their game in their Ohio Valley League opener on the road in Henderson Friday night, but it was the Flash that found the way to come away late in the game with a tough 3-2 win.
The Hoppers only gave up two hits but it was a based-loaded walk in the bottom of the 8th that turned out to be the difference.
The Hoppers got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning. Jacob Bly, from Roane State University, led off the inning with a single and then stole second. He came in on a triple to right off the bat of Braden Pingle, from Rend Lake College, giving Hoptown a 1-0 lead. Pingle then scored on a Flash error to make it 2-0.
Henderson cut into the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Nate York singled and Colton Evans walked to lead off the inning. Both runners advanced on a ground out with York then scoring on a second straight ground out.
The game stayed at 2-1 until the bottom of the 7th inning. Henderson’s Logan Lacey led off with a walk, stole second and third and then scored on a sac fly from Amir Gray to tie the game at 2-2.
The Flash took the lead in the bottom of the 8th on a bases-loaded walk.
Dalton Sisson gave the Hoppers a quality start on the mound, going seven innings, giving up two runs on just two hits, striking out five and walking two.
Jacob Bly led the Hoppers at the plate, going 2-2 with a run scored. Ethan Landis, from Rend Lake College, was 2-4 on the night. The Hoppers finished the game with six hits.
