Brice Nelson closed out his Webster County running career with a third-place finish and a school record in the 1600-meter run at Friday’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.
Nelson’s time of 4:21.97 eclipsed the old mark of 4:26.56 set by Jon Ashby in 2012.
He took home a second medal in the 3200-meter run, completing eight laps around the track in 9:48.65. Nelson set the school record in the event earlier this year.
Senior Preston Glassco was sixth in the 800 meters in 2:01.55 – the sixth fastest time in program history – and was 15th in the 1600 meters in 4:43.06.
Evan Michalek was 18th in the 400 meters in 53.35 – a personal best and fifth fastest in Trojan history.
For the ladies, sophomore Mayci Moore reached the medal podium twice. She ran a 5:23.15 in the 1600-meter run, just missing Megan Crouse’s 2003 school record by less than a second. She finished seventh in that race and was fifth in the 3200-meter run, breaking her own record set at the region meet two weeks ago by nearly seven seconds.
Addy Heady was 20th in the 800 meters in 2:44.28.
The 3200-meter relay team of Addy Heady, Caila Clary, Sara Welshans, and Lily Dunbar came in 22nd place with a time of 12:53.30.
