Flash Use 9-Run 5th to Halt Hoppers’ Win Streak (w/PHOTOS)

The Hoptown Hoppers saw a four-game winning streak come to an end on Monday after the visiting Henderson Flash pushed across nine runs in a decisive 5th inning to cruise to a 15-5 seven-inning victory.

The Flash snapped a three-game skid to stay in 3rd place in the OVL standings, a spot ahead of the 17-18 Hoppers.  Hoptown has Tuesday off before hitting the road to face the 1st-place Madisonville Miners on Wednesday.

Kolby Webb singled in a run to help the Hoppers to a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the 1st before Henderson surged ahead on Taylor Head’s two-run double in the top of the 3rd.

Hoptown answered with three runs in the in the bottom of the frame, including RBI singles by Brayden Eftink and Gavin Lake.  The Hoppers took their last lead of the night when Max Martin came home on a Flash error for a 5-4 advantage.

Henderson opened the 5th with a double by Dane DeWees, and a walk and a single to load the bases.  Ethan Hurt singled in a run, followed by a three-run triple to jumpstart Taylor Head’s five-RBI night.

Crawford Courville doubled in a run, followed by a two-run single by DeWees, and an RBI single by Aidan Moutan to stretch Henderson’s lead to 13-5.

The Flash added a runs in the 6th and 7th to build a 10-run cushion.  Hoptown loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 7th, but came up empty after a pair of fly outs ended the game.

Seth Galloway picked up the win on the mound for the Flash, giving up a single hit with two walks and a pair of strikeouts over three scoreless innings.

DeWees led the Flash with three hits and two RBI, Andrew Lee drove in two runs, Hurt hit safely twice and drove in a run, and Head and Courville each collected two hits.

Jordan Gonzalez suffered the loss for the Hoppers, allowing eight runs, five earned, on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts over the first four innings.

Lake led the way at the plate with three hits and an RBI, and Martin and Webb each finished with two hits.
