
Kerem Kanter leads La Famila to TBT win
He was a late addition to La Familia and is the only player on the team who is not a former University of Kentucky basketball player. However, Kerem Kanter has certainly felt at home in La Familia’s two wins in The Basketball Tournament.
Kanter had 26 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3, in a 81-64 win over The NAWF Sunday in Rupp Arena and had 15 of his team’s first 17 points. Kanter just missed a double-double as he pulled off nine rebounds.
The victory puts La Familia in the regional final Tuesday at 9 p.m. in Rupp Arena against Herd That 63, the regional’s No. 1 seed that beat War Ready 63-59 in Sunday’s other game.
The Nawf was held to just 28.9 percent shooting from the field while La Familia shot 44.8 percent. Willie Cauley-Stein led the defense with seven blocks and seven rebounds.
Eric Bledsoe went 4-for-12 from the field and 6-for-6 at the foul line to score 16 points. Andrew Harrison was 3-for-9 from the field but 5-for-6 at the line to finish with 11 points and also had seven rebounds and two assists. Nate Sestina added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. He was 5-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-8 from 3.
The Herd 63, Marshall’s alumni team, ended its win on a 14-0 run. Tyrus McGee (11 points, three rebounds) made a three-pointer to end the game.
