A pair of second-half goals proved to be the difference on Monday to doom the Madisonville-North Hopkins girls’ soccer team to a season-opening 2-0 loss to hosts Marshall County.

The Lady Maroons outshot the Lady Marshals 14-13 but couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Savanah Dodd in her first career shutout.

After a scoreless first half, Chaney Green opened the scoring when she found the back of the net on a rebound after her shot was saved by Madisonville goalkeeper Kaytee Parish.

Addi Wall rounded out the scoring off an assist from Briley Cathey with just under ten minutes left to help the Lady Marshals start the season with a win for the ninth straight year.  Marshall County is unbeaten in the last four meetings in the series with Madisonville.

The Lady Maroons will look to get in the win column on Saturday when they host Christian County.  They’ve won all 13 meetings with the Lady Colonels by a combined score of 86-5.
