
Calloway County took a step closer to another Class 2A sectional championship with a 5-0 shutout of Trigg County on Monday at the Trigg Rec Complex.
The win moved the Lady Lakers into Thursday’s sectional championship match against crosstown rival Murray, who is in its first year as a Class 2A school. Murray beat Hopkins County Central 4-0 in Monday’s other semifinal match.
Trigg County controlled possession for the first part of the half but was kept off the scoreboard by Calloway’s swarming defense.
Josey McManus got Calloway on the board in the ninth minute when she scored off an assist from Jadyn Stark.
Karlyn Provine took a cross from Rylie Lencki in the final minute of the half for a 2-0 Calloway lead at the break.
The match dagger came four minutes into the second half when Addison Jennings scored out front to extend the Calloway lead to 3-0.
Stark and Finley Lencki closed the scoring for the Lady Lakers, who outshot Trigg 19-6.
Grace Barnes picked up her fourth shutout in goal for Calloway County (4-2), who improved to 13-0 all-time against Trigg County.
The Lady Wildcats (3-3) continue its busy week on Wednesday with a trip to Owensboro and will play at Kirkwood High in Clarksville on Thursday.
