Lyon County scored three goals in four minutes – the final two by sophomore Boston Mullen – to rally past Heritage Christian Academy 7-6 on Thursday and pick up its first win of the season.
Down 6-4 with 19 minutes left, Grady Walker punched home a penalty kick to bring the Lyons to within a goal.
Mullen tied the match two minutes later and added the game-winner with 15 minutes left.
The win snapped a 12-match losing streak for the Lyons dating back to last year. The seven goals scored was their most since a 9-0 win at Logan County on Sept. 22, 2022.
In last week’s 7-3 win over Lyon County in Hopkinsville, Kallan Davis scored all seven Warrior goals. On Thursday, he added four more – two in each half.
It was Lucas West who scored one of the quickest goals in Warrior history just 20 seconds into the match.
A goal by Davis in the 10th minute staked the Warriors to a 2-0 lead before Kveon Cain got Lyon County on the board in the 16th minute.
After Davis again got loose and put HCA up 3-1, Lyon answered with three straight goals to end the first half – perhaps a precursor for the second half.
Walker scored ahead of a header by Mauro Martinez Furones that knotted the match at 3-3. Cayden Webber scored with three minutes left to give the Lyons a 4-3 advantage at halftime.
HCA scored the first three goals of the second half as Jayden Nichols scored his first varsity goal ahead of Davis’ two tallies.
Davis now has 20 goals for the Warriors (1-5-1), who will host University Heights Academy in a Saturday noon district contest.
Lyon County (1-6) will play at Trigg County on Tuesday in a 5th District battle – the first of two games in nine days between the border rivals.
