A pair of goals in rapid succession turned out to be the undoing for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers Saturday. Marshall County scored twice in a span of two minutes in the second half to take a 2-1 home field battle.
The two teams went back-and-forth for the first 40 minutes with neither team able to find the net as they went to the break knotted up a 0-0.
UHA broke the ice early in the second half with Kendall Hancock took a pass from Skylar Cantrell at the 45:00 mark and found the net to put the Lady Blazers up 1-0.
Marshall County evened things up just five minutes later. The Lady Marshals converted an opportunity off a corner kick at 50:00 to make it a 1-1 match.
Just two minutes later, the Lady Blazers were called for a violation in the box and Marshall County knocked down the penalty kick to go up 2-1. That goal turned out to be the winner as the two teams played through a scoreless final 28 minutes.
The loss, which was the Lady Blazers first of the 2024 season, drops UHA to 6-1.
UHA travels to Paducah Monday to take on St. Mary in the sectional round of the All A Classic.
