A young University Heights Academy volleyball team continues to take steps forward here early in the 2024 volleyball season. The Lady Blazers dropped a competitive four-set match Monday evening to the Henderson County Lady Colonels, one of the teams expected to contend for the 2nd Region title.
The Lady Blazers came out and set the tone early that they were not going to just fold up their tent because of their youthfulness. UHA took the opening set 25-21.
The Lady Blazers had chances in the second set to put the Lady Colonels’ backs against the wall. Henderson, however, did what needed to be done to get the set, winning 25-23 in the second to even the match at one set each.
The Lady Colonels then closed out the match by winning the next two sets by identical 25-19 scores to take the match three sets to one.
Olivia Oakley led the UHA attack with 15 kills. She also had 13 digs. 8th grader Kiley Lambert contributed 4 kills.
Gretchen Durham had a big night with 12 digs and 22 set assists.
The Lady Blazers were on their game at the service line led by Olivia Oakley and Gretchen Durham with 5 aces each. Niyati Patel added 4 of her own.
The Lady Blazers will get back to the court Thursday evening when they host Fort Campbell in an 8th District match.
