Lady Rebels Upend Christian County in Four Sets

The Christian County Lady Colonels apparently got the Todd County Central Lady Rebels’ attention after winning the first set of their match Thursday night in Elkton. Led by Aubri Penick and Allyssa Wofford, after dropping that opening set, the Lady Rebels came back to win the next three sets to take a 3-1 win over the Lady Colonels.

Led by the play of Emma Webster, Christian County got out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first set. The Lady Rebels would get as close as 13-12 midway through the set but the Lady Colonels would turn back the rally and win the set 25-20 to go up one set to none in the match. Christian County got some big plays from Adreyona Smith late to help secure the win.

Todd County Central got the quick start in the second set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. The Lady Colonels got some big plays from Carly Armstrong and fought back to tie things up and then take the lead. Trailing 15-13, the Lady Rebels got a spark from Aubri Penick and scored seven straight points. They would go on to win the set 25-19 and even the match at a set apiece.

The third set pretty much belonged to Todd County Central from the beginning. The Lady Rebels bolted out to a 9-3 lead and were never seriously threatened in the set as they went on to take a 25-15 win to go up 2 to 1 in the match. Wofford and Penick were big for the Lady Rebels in the set, combining for seven kills. Wofford also had two aces.

For a moment, it looked as if the fourth set would play out the same way. The Lady Rebels came rolling out to open the set and took a 7-2 lead. Getting some key plays from Skylar Kirby and Kaidence Atwell, Christian County fought back to tie the set at 12-12.

Trailing 16-12, Christian County ripped off 8 straight points and it looked as if the match were headed to a deciding 5th set. However, Todd County Central closed out the set and the match with a 9-1 run to pick up the three set to one win.

Aubri Penick ended up with 13 kills, while Allyssa Wofford added 9 more. Wofford also had six aces.

Shelby Holderman had a big night setting the table with 25 assists for the Lady Rebels.

Todd County Central improves to 7-7 with the win. The Lady Rebels travel to Franklin-Simpson Tuesday night for a 13th District contest.

Christian County falls to 4-10 for the season. The Lady Colonels head over to Hopkinsville to take on the Lady Tigers Monday night.
