The Todd County Central boys’ soccer team has already racked up 10 wins in their first 13 games this season, but 13th-District rivals Franklin-Simpson remain a thorn in the Rebels’ side.

After handing the Rebels a 5-2 setback for their first defeat of the season, the Wildcats used a late goal on Tuesday to pull out a 4-3 victory and stay perfect in district play.

Franklin-Simpson’s Oscar Lopez opened the scoring inside the first minute, but the Rebels pulled even a short time later when John Ross Cardwell slid a pass to Charlie Campbell to tap in for a 1-1 score.

Todd Central was trailing once again after a header by Brody McAllister found the back of the net.  But the Rebels answered with a goal by Cardwell, assisted by Tanner Henderson, to send the game into halftime tied 2-2.

Franklin-Simpson started the second half like the first, taking a 3-2 advantage with an early goal.  Cardwell was on target again with help from Henderson to tie the match for the third time, and it looked like the teams would head to overtime with time running down.

However, after Rebel goalkeeper John Mark Campbell swatted away a Franklin-Simpson cross into the box, the Wildcats pounced at the back post to score the winner with seconds remaining.

Kaden Goodwin made eight saves to preserve the win for the Wildcats.  Will Speed added a goal, and Griff Banton provided three assists to help Franklin-Simpson improve to 7-4.

Todd Central will travel to face Fort Campbell on Thursday before a trip to Louisville to play Oneida Baptist Institute in the quarterfinals of the All “A” State Tournament.
