The injury bug can be a problem for a team, especially if it seems to keep biting the same place. Such is the story for the Lyon County Lyons during the 2024 soccer season, especially as it pertains to goalie.

The Lyons, who have dealt with injuries all season, have gone deep in the depth chart at keeper and that can make for difficult nights on the pitch.

Tuesday night, the Lyons saw Mayfield ring up 8 goals in the first 25 minutes and then roll on to take a 13-1 win at Lee S. Jones Park. The match ended at the half due to the 8-goal rule.

The Lyons got a score in the middle of the half when senior Cayden Weber broke clear on a run down the field and found the net for the Lyons’ only score of the night.

Mayfield then added five more goals to close out the first half and secure the win, which was their third straight.

The Cardinals got a big night from Jason Melendez, who scored seven of the 13 goals. Gerardo Garcia added two more for Mayfield.

Lyon County (1-11) will wrap up the regular season Thursday night at home when they take on Christian County.
