When a coach is making $9 million per year like Kentucky’s Mark Stoops it is hard to feel sorry for everything he is having to cope with daily.

However,  college athletics is changing daily with court rulings that probably will increase football scholarship numbers from 85 to 105 per team and now that national letter of intent is being eliminated. And don’t forget the revenue sharing that schools are going to have to figure out how to distribute.

If that’s not enough, Kentucky still has five Southeastern Conference games to play along with a season-ending matchup with Louisville.

“We’re very confused,” Stoops said after Thursday’s practice in preparation for Saturday night’s home game with Vanderbilt. “I don’t even want to get into that tangent right now, I’ve got to go play a game (on Saturday).

“But we’ve got to go sign guys, we don’t even know exactly how much (scholarships we can use), we don’t know what the revenue share (will be), we don’t know NIL — that just came down the pipe. There’s all kind of shit going on we don’t know.“

Yes there is a lot of “stuff” going on but coaches currently cannot do anything other than continue what they have been doing.

“There’s been so much going on, so many moving pieces in the middle of our season, that quite honestly, myself and a bunch of our colleagues, we have no idea what the heck is going on,” Stoops said.

“I guess it doesn’t change much. We’ll still sign them on Signing Day and go from there.”

  1. What about some NCAA leadership and guidance?

Doesn’t seem to be any. Just like something else I can think of.

  2. I’ve always loved college sports more because they played for the love of the game. Its getting to the point where the NCAA is ruining college football. They are trying to make it a expansion league for the nfl.

  3. They have turned college sports into overpaid minor leagues. I can only imagine next schools will cut non revenue making sports, because why should they get paid if they don’t produce revenue. Smaller Division 1 schools and D2 on down will over time cut their athletic programs because they don’t produce revenue and these kids are going to be expected to be paid. Next comes unionization. Before we know it college players will be going on strike. Yes, big conference schools generate a lot of revenue but what so many don’t realize is that revenue pays for EVERY sport on campus. I have always loved and preferred college sports from professional because there was something special about it, now they are becoming one and the same minus the talent level in college in no way compares to the pros. I thought I would never feel this way but my days of watching college sports is quickly coming to an end.
