Cate Blane’s high school golf career came to an end on Saturday with a 54th-place finish at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Tournament.

The Hopkinsville High senior opened play on Friday with a round of 89 and finished Saturday’s second round with a 12-over par 84.

Blane carded four pars on Friday at the Bowling Green Country Club, unable to find a short game suitable to trim shots off her score.

On Saturday, her card looked better with nine pars and a birdie as she shot a 40 on the back nine and 44 on the front.

Rowan County’s Athena Singh shot 5-under par to win the state title by nine shots over Cumberland County’s Kenzie Wilson. Ballard Memorial’s Madison Glisson tied for fourth place at 6-over.

The trip to the state tournament was the fifth for Blane, who missed qualifying by five shots as a seventh grader. Her best finish came as a sophomore when she tied for 26th place.

Blane plans to attend the University of Kentucky and enter the nursing pathway.
