Former Caldwell County Tiger Derrin Boyd has yet to play his first game at the College of Charleston. However, he was named preseason Honorable-Mention by the Coastal Athletic Association on Friday.

A graduate student at College of Charleston, Boyd spent the last two seasons at Lipscomb earning All-ASUN second-team honors last season.

The Princeton native was Lipscomb’s leading scorer at 17.6 points per game, ranking fourth in the ASUN in the category, before a season-ending injury cut his year short.

Prior to suiting up for the Bisons, Boyd played two seasons at NAIA Georgetown College, where he was an Honorable Mention All-American and two-time Mid-South Conference first-team selection.

At Caldwell County, Boyd is still fourth on the Tigers’ career scoring list with 1,911 points. He is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 633 boards.

Boyd is a 2019 Caldwell County graduate.

He will be playing his final season of college eligibility at Charleston for new head coach Chris Mack, a former University of Louisville skipper.

The defending CAA champion Cougars were picked to finish second in the league behind Towson.
Charleston received 157 points with three first-place votes from the league’s head coaches.

College of Charleston senior Ante Brzovic was named the 2024-25 CAA Preseason Player of the Year announced by the league on Friday.

Brzovic earned a spot on the 2023-24 All-CAA First Team and NABC All-District 10 First Team. Already named the 2024-25 Blue Ribbon CAA Preseason Player of the Year, the Croatian big man scored 20-plus points on three occasions last year including a career-high 31 at Hampton. Averaging 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season, he scored double figures in 22 contests, including five double-doubles. He was a unanimous All-CAA Preseason First-Team selection.

The two-time NCAA Assist-Turnover Ratio statistical champion, CJ Fulton, earned a spot on the All-CAA Preseason Second Team. Fulton, a senior from Northern Ireland, recorded 145 assists and just 35 turnovers in 2023-24 while averaging 4.1 points and 4.1 assists per game.

The CAA’s 14 head coaches were polled on a predicted order of finish and preseason All-CAA teams; coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team or players.

College of Charleston opens the season Monday, Nov. 4, against Southern Illinois in the Field of 68 Opening Showcase in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
