Last week, Heritage Christian Academy won its first 8th District volleyball championship.

On Monday, the Lady Warriors won their first match ever in the 2nd Region tournament.

On Thursday, HCA will play in the regional championship game for the first time ever, looking to claim its first 2nd Region title.

Heritage Christian (23-5) earned its spot in the final by sweeping three tight sets from Caldwell County Wednesday night in semifinal action at Hopkinsville High School.

Caldwell led late in both the second and third sets before HCA finished off a 25-20, 25-22, 28-26 victory.

Next up for the Lady Warriors is Union County in Thursday’s 6 p.m. championship. The Bravettes (15-7) had also never won a match at the regional tourney before this week but now find themselves playing for the title.

Union turned back Christian County in four sets in Wednesday’s semifinals to reach the finals, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.

Heritage Christian’s offensive attack against Caldwell was led by Katie Cansler and Mya Goodwin. Cansler, who missed Tuesday’s opening-round win over Livingston Central with an injury, returned to the lineup with 17 kills and 11 digs on Wednesday.

Goodwin had 16 kills and 18 digs for the Lady Warriors.

Caldwell finishes its season at 19-10 but the Lady Tigers battled down to the wire in the final two sets.

Caldwell rallied from behind to lead 21-20 in the second set. However, HCA then won four straight points and five of the next six.

Down 15-11 in the third set, Caldwell came back to tie things at 23-23 and even led 26-25 with a chance to extend the match. However, Heritage won the final three points of the night to finish off the contest.
