Kentucky had 22 assists in hits 70-41 win over Northern Kentucky Thursday night and had two players — Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack — with eight assists. But four other players also had assists as the Cats had assists on 22 of 30 made field goals.
“That’s what our teams are based on. Our offense is based off of sharing the basketball,” Kentucky coach Kenny Brooks said. “If we were giving out little stickers for doing well, I’d give them out for making the extra pass, you know, because we want to make sure we share the basketball.
“I think we had like 26 assists the other night (against USC Upstate) and those numbers are not uncommon for our teams and the way we play, with our style, our offense.”
That unselfishness can lead to a strange plea from Brooks at times.
“Sometimes I even have to tell them it’s okay to put the ball on the floor and drive, but we’re more about passing. And they really look for each other,” Brooks said.
He really likes the way his twin towers — 6-7 freshman Clara Silva and 6-5 sophomore Strack — pass the ball in the high-low setup.
“They look for each other constantly, and I think they feed off each other very well,” the UK coach said. “I think we’ll break the 30 (assist) mark at some point this year when we start hitting some shots like we are capable of. But that’s where our offense is predicated on sharing the basketball.”

I’m glad we hit the reset button on women’s and mens basketball. This should be entertaining until april.
