Amber Smith now has her own basketball training and consulting business.
Former Kentucky basketball player/assistant coach Amber Smith will host a Thanksgiving All Girls’ Hoops Clinic Sunday at the Lexington Ice Center (560 Eureka Springs Dr., Lexington, 40517).
The clinic will have three sessions — 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. The high school clinic will be a recruiting information session only.
And the clinic is FREE.
Smith spent two seasons as UK’s director of player development for the women’s basketball program and was promoted to assistant coach starting with the 2018-19 season. She left UK to coach at Indiana for the 2023-24 season. She recently started her own basketball training and consulting business in Lexington.
“I am doing the clinic to kick things off (business-wise) and also give back,” said Smith.
Smith, a guard, played in 123 games for UK with 109 starts. She was a member of the 2008 SEC All-Freshman Team and ranks sixth all-time in program history in assists and eighth all-time in assists per game. Smith averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 assists per game, helping Kentucky advance to four consecutive postseason tournaments, including two trips to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
The Winter Haven, Fla., native started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Tennessee before a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech.
