The player picked as the top player in the 2nd Region in the Courier-Journal’s preseason rankings has made a decision on his basketball future. In a social media post Thursday morning, Henderson County senior Cooper Davenport announced he would be taking his abilities to Samford University in Birmingham.

Davenport finished the 2023-2024 season averaging 13.8 points per game. He hit nearly half of Henderson County’s 3-point shots for the season, connecting on 75 of 183 shots for 41 percent.

He was also a player you did not want to put at the free throw line. Davenport hit 84.9 percent of his free throws, knocking down 90 of 106 attempts.

Davenport helped lead the Colonels to the regional championship game, where Henderson County fell 56-44 to eventual state champion Lyon County.
