A 14-point run by Webster County proved to be too much for visiting Heritage Christian Academy to overcome on Tuesday in a 79-35 opening-night defeat.

The Warriors only trailed 26-19 late in the first half before the Trojans reeled off 14 straight points to go into the break with a comfortable lead.

HCA’s Jason Leek had a strong first quarter with seven points, but Webster County countered with ten from Micah Austin and six for Evan Davis to lead by 19.  Nathan Wheatcraft scored seven points for the Warriors to cut into the margin, but the Trojans closed the half with a run to take control.

Reid McDyer scored 13 of his 16 points in the third for Webster, and Davis knocked down a trio of three-pointers to help the Trojans outscore the Warriors 33-7.

Davis led all scorers with 22, followed by Austin with 17 and McDyer with 16.  Leek was the lone Warrior in double figures with 21.

Webster County moved to 2-0 ahead of a visit from Dawson Springs on Friday.

HCA will look to bounce back this weekend with a trip to North Hardin Christian School to take part in the KCAC Boys State Tournament.
