Late Bucket Lifts Trojans Over Dawson Springs

A second-half surge by hosts Webster County ended in a last-second bucket by Reid McDyer on Friday to help the Trojans improve to 3-0 with a 52-49 victory over visiting Dawson Springs.

Dawson Springs led 16-14 after the first quarter behind a trio of three-pointers by Jaydon Plunkette, and the Panthers doubled up the Trojans in the second frame with seven points from Montgomery Johnston.

Trace Hardison and Aiden Alstadt each connected on a pair of threes for the Trojans, but they trailed 26-19 at the halftime break.

After a scoreless first half, McDyer caught fire for Webster County with 10 points in the third, and the Trojans surged in front by a point with a quarter to play despite two more three-pointers from Plunkette.

Johnston capped a game-high 22 points with nine in the fourth for Dawson Springs, but Alstadt knocked down two more from behind the arc to finish with 17 points for the Trojans.  With time running down, McDyer closed a 16-point second half with a bucket to give Webster County three wins in three tries to open the season.

Plunkett joined Johnston in double figures for the Panthers with 15, and Rex Blue added 12.  Dawson Springs lost for the first time this season ahead of a trip to Mayfield on Tuesday.
