
The Mayfield girls basketball team continued its perfect start to the season on Tuesday with a 48-10 victory over visiting Dawson Springs.
The Lady Cardinals raced out to a 24-3 lead after the opening quarter, paced by 11 early points from Lay Mayes.
Mayfield shut out the Lady Panthers in the second frame, and Mayes added eight more points for a 34-3 score at the break.
Mays added the final bucket of her game-high 21 points in the third quarter. No other player for either team reached double figures.
Dawson Springs slipped to 1-2 with its second straight defeat. The Lady Panthers will be back on the road on Saturday to face Heritage Christian Academy in the Holiday Classic at Hopkinsville High School. Dawson Springs has won all five previous meetings with the Lady Warriors.
Mayfield improved to 4-0 with wins by an average of almost 30 points.
