A slow first half on offense for the Christian County Lady Colonels allowed Henderson County to get to the lead and then the northern Lady Colonels held on for a big 2nd Region win Thursday night. In a possible preview of the 2nd Region championship game, Henderson County gave up just 13 first half points and then went on to take a 47-40 home court win over Christian County.
ATylia Green hit for five points in the opening quarter as Henderson County took a 10-7 lead after one. The Henderson defense allowed just two field goals from Genesis McGee and a three from Lazarie Daniel in the first eight minutes.
The Henderson defense continued to lock things down in the second quarter giving up just two field goals and two free throws as the lead grew to 22-13 at the half.
Christian County got some offense rolling as the second half started. Still, Henderson County nudged the lead to 37-27 going into the final quarter.
Henderson was then able to turn back any Christian County comeback attempts over the final eight minutes and held on for the seven point win.
NeVaeh Day led Christian County with 15 points, all coming after the first quarter. Lazarie Daniel reached double figures with 10. Genesis McGee added 7 points. The Henderson defense held Anaysia Bagwell to 6 points.
For Henderson County, A’Tylia Green finished with 13 points. Brooklyn Gibson added 12 points while Anna Kemp and Allyson Rideout had 8 points each.
Christian County (2-2) is back in action Friday night taking on Graves County in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Hoops Classic at Hopkinsville High School.
