
A 26-5 advantage in the third quarter was the difference on Friday in the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team’s 57-32 victory over visiting Jo Byrns, TN.
The Lady Rebels won for the second time in a row over Tennessee competition to improve to 3-2 ahead of a visit from Monroe County on Saturday. Todd Central has lost the last seven meetings in the series with the Lady Falcons.
Todd Central trailed by a point after a low-scoring first quarter before surging in front behind seven points from Jordan Shemwell to lead 21-17 at the halftime break.
Alexis Taylor led the Lady Rebels’ second-half charge with a pair of three-pointers on the way to 12 points in the third quarter, and Ja’Mya Kay added eight points to help Todd Central stretch the advantage to 47-22 with a quarter to play.
Shemwell finished with 17 points to lead all scorers, followed for the Lady Rebels by Taylor with 14, and Kay with 10 to overcome a 9 for 20 effort at the free throw line.
Jo Byrns left 13 points at the free-throw line to slip to 1-3 overall.
