Caldwell Boys Hold Off Webster 62-59

The Caldwell boys’ basketball team picked up its third win in four outings to start the season with a 62-59 victory on the road at Webster County on Friday night.

JayDarius Wilson and Collin Whittington combined for 14 of the Tigers’ 18 points in the first quarter for an early six-point edge.

Webster County’s Micah Austin scored eight points in the second quarter to end the half with 13, but the Tigers got six from Kam Wilson to hold on to a 32-30 edge at the halftime break.

Austin scored six in the third to pull the Trojans even and knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the fourth to finish with a game-high 25 points.  But Wilson capped a 21-point night with eight in the final frame to help Caldwell earn its second straight win.

The Tigers improved to 3-1 ahead of a matchup with Ohio County on Saturday at the Beaver Dam Tourism Classic.

JayDarius Wilson led Caldwell with 21 points, followed by Whittington with 12, and Kam Wilson with 10.

Webster County slipped to 3-3 with its third straight defeat before the Trojans hit the road next week at Hopkinsville.
