A big second quarter helped the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers turn away Fort Campbell Friday night and improve to 3-2.
A 15-5 advantage in the second stanza turned a 12-11 Lady Falcon lead after 8 minutes into a 36-27 Lady Panther edge at the break. Dawson went on to win 58-45.
After grabbing the lead in the second quarter, the Lady Panthers extended the margin to double figures in the third period and kept Fort Campbell from putting together a run in the second half.
Dawson led 39-29 entering the final frame, and pushed the margin to as much as 15 points midway through the fourth quarter.
The Lady Panthers got 22 points from Baylee Swatzell.
Dawson also outrebounded the taller Lady Falcons 40-29. That includes 24 offensive rebounds, with the Lady Panthers getting most of their points on putbacks.
Rosella Rajj had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Fort Campbell.
The teams combined to shoot 66 free throws. Dawson was 20 of 44 while Fort Campbell made 11 of 22.
The Lady Panthers next visit Hopkins County Central on Tuesday as part of a girls and boys 7th District doubleheader.
Fort Campbell plays at home on Saturday, hosting Cloverport at noon.
