A short turnaround from Friday night to Saturday morning was a tough go for the Todd County Central Lady Rebels Saturday morning. That along with a long field goal drought. Less than 18 hours after picking up a Friday night win over Jo Byrns, the Lady Rebels, minus point guard Jordyn Shemwell, could not overcome an early offensive lull and fell to Monroe County 64-35.
The game went back and forth early. There were two ties and six lead changes in the first eight minutes, the last coming when Monroe took a 10-9 lead late in the quarter. The Lady Falcon lead was at 14-10 when the opening quarter ended.
With Jordyn Shemwell out of the lineup, the Lady Rebels had trouble finding their offensive stride. That combined with Monroe County crashing the glass, spelled trouble for the Lady Rebels in the second quarter.
After a couple of free throws from Chloe Collins, the Lady Falcons ripped off a 12-0 run to push the lead out to 26-12. The Lady Rebels would end up going without a field goal in the second quarter with Monroe County taking a 32-14 lead into the break.
The field goal drought continued for the Lady Rebels coming out of the break. The Monroe County lead reached 26 points at 40-14 before the lid finally came off the basket for Todd County Central, after more than 11 minutes without a made field goal. Behind the play of Alexis Taylor and JaMya Kay, the Lady Rebels made a little run late in the quarter to cut the lead to 50-30.
The shooting woes were not gone for the Lady Rebels however, as they made two shots from the field over the final quarter as the Lady Falcons rolled on to the win.
Alexis Taylor led Todd County Central with 12 points. Chloe Collins also hit double figures with 10. JaMya Kay finished up with 7 points.
Ansley Turner and Carlee Yokley had 16 points each for Monroe County. Sarah Thompson was also in double figures with 10 for the Lady Falcons.
