The Henderson County Colonels looked the part of a regional contender Saturday night. The Colonels got 24 points from standout guard Cooper Davenport as they rolled to a 83-56 win over the Hopkinsville Tigers in the final game of the second day of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Hoops Classic.
The game was close through the opening quarter. Jonovan Leavell knocked down two three in the first to help keep the Tigers within 19-15.
The Tiger defense kept the reins on the Colonels during the second quarter, allowing Henderson just 12 points. Henderson County took a 31-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Henderson defense changed the flow of the game as the teams came out of the locker room to start the second half. Henderson allowed the Tigers just 10 points in the third, all coming from James Bradley Jr., as the Colonels ran the lead out to 55-37.
With Cooper Davenport and Lacon McKinney leading the way, Henderson County kept the pedal down and pulled out to the 27 point win.
James Bradley Jr. led Hopkinsville with 16 points. Layton Giltner also hit double figures with 10 points. Jonovan Leavell had nine points on three first half three-pointers. Jonathan Hart and Deavery Ramey added 7 points each.
Cooper Davenport led all scorers in the game with 24 points for Henderson County. Davenport hit four shots from behind the arc. Lacon McKinney finished with 17 points. Elijah Suggs added 16 points.
Hopkinsville (1-4) is back in action Saturday against Wilson Academy in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Hoops Classic.
