Caldwell County got back on track Tuesday night with an 85-56 win over Todd County Central.

The Tigers felt like they struggled in a 66-43 setback at Ohio County Saturday night, but a big finish to the second quarter put Caldwell on the path to a bounce-back victory against the Rebels, in a date that was a late addition to the schedule.

Todd (0-6) led 13-9 in the opening stanza before Caldwell edged ahead 14-13 after 8 minutes.

The Rebels kept the score close for much of the second period and were still within 27-25 following a bucket from in close by Devin Schutt with 2:41 left in the first half.

However, Caldwell’s press began to take its toll — and that kickstarted the offense for the Tigers.

A 14-0 run — keyed by two 3-pointers by Pax Aikins and another 3 by Daelyn Lander — put Caldwell up 41-25 before J.J. Glass banked in a shot to end the run with just 3 seconds left in the stanza. But the Tigers took a 41-27 edge to halftime.

Caldwell (4-2) extended the margin to 25 points, 59-34, midway through the third period while taking control of the contest.

The visiting Rebels battled back as close as 64-50 early in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.

Jaydarius Wilson led all scorers in the contest with 21 points for the Tigers — 15 of those coming in the second half.

Caldwell got 15 points apiece from Pax Aikins and Collin Whittington. Lander and Kam Wilson each had nine points. Luke Parker had 13 rebounds to go with eight points.

Schutt topped Todd with 19 points and eight rebounds. Conner Holder had 15 points. Brett Harris had 11 boards along with four points.

Caldwell has taken five of its last seven matchups with Todd. However, the Rebels still lead all-time 26-21.

Next up for Caldwell is the Paducah St. Mary Christmas Tournament Friday, Saturday and Monday. The Tigers open against Livingston Central and will face either Carlisle County or Heritage Christian Academy on Saturday.

Todd will next host Fort Campbell on Friday in the United Southern Bank’s Battle at The Border in Elkton.
